Biography
Linda Ngitjanka was born north of Brown’s Bore around 1934. Her parents died when she was quite young and she was taken to the Aboriginal Mission at Haasts Bluff west of Alice Springs.
Linda was a tiny little woman and was technically blind, having only 6% sight. This perhaps help to explains her use of bright colors and simple parallel lined indicating the sand dunes of the country she was familiar with.
She painted ‘Fire Sticks’ and ‘Alkipi’ which was her country. Many of her paintings depict Acacia trees which she called ‘lollie trees’
I produced her only solo exhibition in 2008 at a Sydney gallery I was managing, before moving north to establish Pandanus Gallery in Palm Cove, FNQ, with my husband.
