This is a very fine example of Minnie Pwerle’s painting of one of her traditional totems – Bush Melon – especially in context of her identifying the subject in association with sacred ceremony. This is evident in the movement within the painting and the specific inclusion of painted women’s breasts – a common reference shared with her great sister-in-law, Emily Kame Kngwarreye.
