Aurukun is famous for its carvings and sculptures that have been an integral part of ceremonial and totemic life for the language groups in the region over thousands of years. In recent times, the “Aurukun Dogs” have become world famous as a modern day expression of this creative genius. Bruce has carved two charming dogs known as Ku – the mother and her pup – in an unusual seated, attentive pose rather than in the prevailing action and more challenging ones.
This Ku is both the mother dog and its pup, each of which is individually available for purchase (see Codes PGAK 001 and 002 for the individual pieces – the pair is unavailable if an individual piece is sold separately).
Pair of sculptures – natural ochres and acrylic on carved Milkwood
