Artist: DOROTHY NAPANGARDI
Cat#: PGWA124
Size: 120x90cm
Medium: Painting
This is one of the last paintings Dorothy created before her premature death in a motor vehicle accident in 2013. It clearly depicts her extraordinary use of space and composition to infer energy and movement in the landscape, especially in context of Lake Mackay in the Tanami Desert where she was born. Her work has been compared with Emily Kngwarreye’s painting which had a deep spiritual motivation behind the visual elements of life and the landscape. Lake Mackay is an ancient salt lake that fills with water occasionally. It is a perennial element in her paintings with the linear arrangement of dotting in this beautiful painting also implying water and the movement across the landscape of the Tjukurrpa in their Dreaming creation activities.
