Lucky has painted a totemic subject of great importance to her and an important food and medicine source for her communities in the Utopia Region.
This painting relies upon the underpainting techniques originally used by the women who joined the contemporary Aboriginal Art movement which the men began at Papunya in 1971 under the inspired guidance of Geoffrey Bardon.
When the women began to paint there was a tendency for them to paint sacred or semi-sacred subjects to which only initiated women were authorised to witness. This occurred around the country as the women decided they wanted to participate in the new contemporary art movement including the women at Utopia.
One of the techniques to avoid contention in this regard was for another layer of painting applied over the secrte-sacred subject matter to which only the artist was intimately familiar thus resolving the problem.
Lucky has used an inspirational underrpainting technique combined with overall geometric pattern that draws the eye around and into the painting using a complex colour palette and energy points representing the multiple uses of the Grevillia plants spread across her country.
